The Fiat 500 1957 Edition is a good way to celebrate the anniversary of the 500. Now there’s a special edition of the special edition: the Fiat 500 1957 Edition Cabrio. If one is good, two must be better. At least that’s what the Fiat brand is thinking. The limited-production model features a premium dual-layer power-operated cloth top, which is a modern interpretation of the canvas roof from the original Cinquecento. At a reasonable $24,700 base price, the Cabrio will be on sale this spring, but you can order now if you want one, because limited editions usually don’t hang around long.
The cloth top retracts all the way to the rear spoiler with the push of a button, and can be opened at a best-in-class speed of up to 60 mph. Push the button any time during the initial opening process, and it will stop at a midway position. Press it a second time, and the roof will fold back all the way behind the rear head restraints (but only up to 50 mph at this point). To protect it from damage, if you open the liftgate, the top will automatically reposition itself back to the rear spoiler to avoid any obstructions.
Like its hardtop sibling, the Cabrio features a sport-tuned suspension, 16-inch forged aluminum wheels and a choice of three exterior colors: Blanco, Chiaro, and Celeste (White, light green, and celestial blue).
