Call it Luck o’ the Irish meets Blarney, and in this case at least, the luck won. It happened when a would-be car thief in Drogheda, Ireland, knocked himself out with a brick he was trying to use to break the car’s window.

And it was all caught on camera, and that’s where his luck ran out. When the wanna-be pitched a smaller rock to break the window on driver’s side, instead of the window shattering, the brick bounced off the armored glass.

Instead of just walking away, the miscreant walked around to the other side, found a larger brick and pitched it against the passenger side window of the German luxury car.

That brick didn’t break the window either. It bounced off the glass as well, but directly into the Irishman’s face, knocking him out cold.

That’s when the car owner came out and saw the man laid out on the pavement, his face “in ribbons,” according to the owner.

The owner thought the would-be thief had been beaten up, and his girlfriend figured he was a victim of a hit-and-run.

But when the man came to, that’s when the blarney began. First he told the car owner that a friend had beaten him up in a drunken altercation. But when the car owner tried to call an ambulance and the police, the perp got nervous and threatened to burn down the car owner’s pub.

The owner called police anyway and because the pub owner had the whole incident on tape from a surveillance camera, including getting lifted off the ground by the ricocheting brick before falling to the ground, they had the goods on the rock thrower.

Officially, police are “investigating.” though they were also seen laughing while watching the tape. It looks like one Irishman wasn’t very lucky, blarney notwithstanding.
