British fans of American muscle have something new to cheer about. The Chevrolet Camaro is now officially available through dealers in the U.K.

The Camaro sold in Great Britain will be available in either coupe or convertible, but only with the V-8. Chevrolet in the U.K. won’t bother with the V-6 offered as a base model in North America. If you’re going to go, go big. The Camaro coupe is priced at £34,995 while the convertible lists for £39,995. At the exchange rate as this is written, that’s $55,250 or $63,140 respectively at your British Chevrolet dealer.

For al limited time, the 2012 45th anniversary Camaro, in Carbon Flash Black paint with red and silver anniversary stripes, dark silver 20-inch alloys, a unique 45th anniversary leather interior with red, white and blue stitching and a one-off white-backed instrument panel, will be available for a paltry £36,495 for the coupe or £41,495 for the convertible. If you’re paying with dollars, that’s $57,615 for the Camaro with a steel roof or $65,510 with the fabric hood, as the Brits mistakenly call a convertible top.

The powertrain will be identical to that in V-8-powered Camaros Stateside, with the six-speed manual transmission standard and the six-speed automatic available for another £1,500, or $2,370.

The only sticky on the wicket, however, is that the Camaro in Great Britain will not be available in right-hand drive, and Chevrolet’s market guesstimators in Jolly Olde have made an initial order of only 200 cars. According to Craig Cheatham, spokesman for Chevrolet UK, “not huge volume, but this may increase with demand.”

It’s the first time that GM has sold the Chevrolet Camaro in the UK since 1976. Ironically, it’s currently the only choice for British pony car enthusiasts, with neither the Ford Mustang nor Dodge Challenger offered by their respective manufacturers.

Orders for the Chevrolet Camaro in Britain can be made now, with the first cars arriving in dealerships late spring. More info on the Camaro in the UK, including full specifications and options, can be found at
