Every year for the past 16 years on the first Sunday in November, a group of diehard auto enthusiasts have been meeting at a local park in Van Nuys, California, to celebrate the Best of France and Italy cars. Started by four friends, Tina Van Curen (owner of Burbank’s own Autobooks-Aerobooks), Chuck Forward, Sam William, and Merkel Weiss, this is the most laid-back car show ever, with no official judging and no demands that all vehicles must be concours quality. Plus, they welcome participants to bring as many vehicles as they want. Although the emphasis is on French and Italian vehicles, we did see some fringe cars slide in, and we are the better for it. Usually the vehicles number close to 500, but because of a rare rainy day in SoCal, about half that number showed up; as always with cars, it’s quality, not quantity that counts. Here’s a peek at the fun and fascinating vehicles that braved the weather, not only today, but over the decades.
